GW2 Untamed WvW Builds

Untamed splits its attention between you and the pet. Unleashed Power grants cantrips and the unleash toggle: Unleash Ranger sharpens your own skills, Unleash Pet replaces the pet's skills with larger area-of-effect versions. Vow of the Untamed makes the toggle matter — more outgoing damage while you are unleashed, less incoming damage while the pet is.

Our one Untamed is the boon-corrupt Ranger. Corrupting Vines turns the pet's Rending Vines from a strip into a corrupt and puts a boon strip on your Unleashed Ambush skills too, so removing the enemy's boons is a job you can actually do from a damage slot. Let Loose makes those same ambush skills hand might and quickness to nearby allies, so the build is not purely selfish.

The price is the pet. It has to be alive, and it has to be unleashed at the moment you want the corruption — while the pet is unleashed you are not, and your own damage bonus is off. Spear and Greatsword carry the strike damage; the strip is the reason to bring it over Soulbeast, which merges the animal away and never has to think about it.

Playing Untamed in WvW

The mechanic to learn is the toggle. Unleashing yourself turns on your damage; unleashing the pet turns on Rending Vines and cuts your incoming damage. Unleashed Power opens a short window of Unleashed Ambush skills each time you unleash, and Let Loose refreshes that window on weapon swap, so the rhythm is swap, unleash, ambush — with Corrupting Vines on, each ambush strips and each swap buys you another one.

Marksmanship is the damage floor: Farsighted on every weapon skill, Predator's Onslaught against anything disabled, chilled, crippled or immobilized, and Opening Strike tagging the target with vulnerability the moment you enter combat.

Survival is on cooldowns, and every one of them is yours alone. Signet of Stone keeps passive toughness on you and the pet and can take you both out of attack damage outright, Forest's Fortification is ten stacks of Stability, resistance, resolution and 50% less incoming damage on a button that comes back faster the more you hit, and Perilous Gift takes you out of damage entirely for its duration. So this is not a build without Stability — it is a build with no stability to share. What it brings the squad is boon corruption and the might and quickness off Let Loose; the defensive support has to come from another slot.
